MARÍTIMA DAVILA BILBAO | Consigns a 1,500-ton project

June 2022 | PUERTO DE BILBAO NEWS 97

As part of its multi-modal and multi-purpose services, the port of Bilbao and the port community offer highly singular specialisation regarding loading industrial projects and large oversized and heavy components.

A good example of this has been the dispatch of shipping on the "DOC Carrier" pontoon bound for the Turkish port of Haydarpasa, with the participation of a large number of members of the port community: From manufacturing to rolling shipment and lo-lo.

The six large pieces weigh 1,500 tons and were manufactured by Lointek in their port area installations.

The stevedoring company SLP intervened in the loading operation, made in ro-ro and lo-lo modalities, carried out successfully using Transportes y Grúas Aguado SPMTs, in a singular ro-ro operation carried out during high tide, and which will be complemented with a conventional lo-lo loading.

Marítima Davila was appointed as consignee agent of the “DOC Carrier”, chartered from Dutch Offshore Contractors (DOC) by the company Combi-Lift, choosing this towed transport for being an effective solution, and it also addresses the lack of offer of multi-purpose ships.

This specialization makes the port of Bilbao, with its companies, a benchmark hub in project logistics.
