FRIOPORT | New investment in energy efficiency

December 2021 | PUERTO DE BILBAO NEWS95

To satisfy consumption through auto-consumption, Frigoríficos Portuarios del Norte (Frioport), the port of Bilbao terminal for perishable goods, will deploy a new 100kW solar photovoltaic installation, connected to the internal network to complement that which is already in service.

The project will be carried out with engineering from ArgiOnElectric, and it is expected to start operating in the first quarter of 2022 with an investment of 100,000 euros.  The solar photovoltaic installation will be placed on the roof of the pavilion and will have a monitoring system and a screen showing the renewable energy by day, month and year. The annual amount of FV energy generated is expected to be 129,082,7kWh.

With this second photovoltaic installation, FrioPort progresses in its environmental and energy sustainability strategy by:

  • Building a solar photovoltaic plant connected to the grid to achieve maximum energy self-sufficiency.
  • Increasing efficiency in energy consumption.
  • Contributing to the achievement of a more competitive, sustainable and secure energy system.
  • Reducing environmental impact, requiring less energy for consumption or production and reducing dependency on external energy sources.

The FrioPort terminal, with its 4,000 m²/25,000m³ capacity in 2 freezer chambers and 3 chambers for fresh produce with storage temperatures from +8º to -20ºC, offers, by the quayside, all sorts of associated logistics and administrative services (palletisation, shrink-wrapping, extra-weights, transhipments, ‘picking’, customs clearance and border inspection, DDA-Storage other than customs warehousing, etc.) for all types of products that require storage at a controlled temperature.

The Frioport terminal also has the authorisation of the Spanish Tax Agency for weighing bananas, a certificate valid for customs declarations regarding fresh bananas.
