Since last January 1st, the seventh amendment of the Harmonised System of the World Customs Organization (WCO) has been in force, enabling a common basis for the classification of goods for trade. Bergé Aduanas recommends import and export companies to check if their products are affected by this novelty.

The tariff classification of a product impacts on the tariffs, commercial policy measures and applicable rules of origin. In short, this classification labels the product for passing through customs.

This seventh amendment aims to adapt to the new flows of products, technological progress and environmental and social questions. As a result, the combined nomenclature is also modified, which is the method of customs classification used in the European Union.

The harmonised system integrates about 5,000 groups of products and encompasses 98% of world trade, being used by over 200 countries as a basis for their tariffs and for drawing up statistics.

Therefore, the entire port community of Bilbao encourages importers and exporters to use professional customs experts.
